Freelancing, rebuilt for students

Real work. Actually paid.

Jurni connects Egyptian university students with small and medium businesses for short-term, paid projects with a clear brief — and feeds the results back to their universities.

The problem

Everything on offer was unpaid, or wanted experience you couldn't get.

Jurni started with a problem its founders lived. After school, Ahmed El Sokkary and Omar Abdelaziz looked for work that was both paid and meaningful — and found neither. That gap isn't personal. It's structural.

Why the alternatives fail

  • University internships

Often unpaid. Students rarely get meaningful, hands-on work.

  • Traditional agencies

Priced for large corporates — out of reach for most SMEs.

  • Global freelance platforms

Foreign-currency pricing, and the talent is rarely local or student-status.

  • Informal referrals

Unstructured, unscalable, no accountability and no feedback loop.

The solution

One model, many kinds of work.

Jurni connects Egyptian university students with small and medium businesses for short-term, well-defined, paid project work. Structured like an agency, priced like a student, local by design.

Design & content

Brand, social, copy, video and creative production.

Live today

Marketing & web

Campaigns, landing pages, websites and digital work.

Live today

The model extends into anything businesses already outsource. The categories below are where we're heading next — but the list isn't fixed. If a student can deliver it and a business needs it, we'll look at it.

Accounting support

Bookkeeping and finance admin for lean teams.

AutoCAD & drafting

Technical and engineering assistance.

Research & ops

Data entry, research and operations support.

HR & recruitment

Recruitment and people-admin help.

Translation

Arabic–English copy, subtitling and localisation.

Video & photo

Shooting, editing and post-production.

Sales & outreach

Lead lists, outreach and CRM tidy-ups.

Tutoring & training

Subject tutoring and internal team training.

How it works today

Matched by hand. On purpose.

Every match is currently run manually by the founding team. It's slower, and it's how we keep quality high while we prove the model before automating it in the app.

  1. 01

    We meet the business

Our team sits with an SME and finds a few roles or projects where student support genuinely adds value.

  2. 02

    We source and vet

We find students who are eager, hardworking and can show real work — then we vet them properly.

  3. 03

    We introduce

Matched students meet the business. If both sides are aligned, the work starts with a clear scope.

  4. 04

    The work gets done

Short-term delivery against an agreed brief — with Jurni staying in the loop rather than disappearing after the intro.

  5. 05

    The student gets paid

The business pays the student through Jurni. Escrow-secured payments are on the roadmap.

The three-sided loop

Everyone wins, or it isn't a loop.

The business saves money. The student earns money and experience. The university gets visibility. No competitor or informal alternative closes that loop in Egypt today.

Ahmed explains

Paid experience. Not favours.

  • Unpaid internship? Hard pass.
Why Jurni

Experience that actually counts.

Not shifts, not admin, not coffee runs. Real projects with a brief, a deadline and a fee — chosen to line up with what you study, so it's worth putting on a CV.

Defined, not vague

Every project has a brief, a deliverable and an end date — so students can actually succeed at it.

Paid, always

No unpaid internships and no free labour dressed up as experience. Students get paid for the work.

Local by design

Egyptian students, Egyptian SMEs, Egyptian pounds. No FX markup.

Degree-relevant

Work that connects to what students study, not random shifts unrelated to their field.

Vetted both ways

We vet students on work ethic and demonstrated ability before anyone is introduced.

For businesses

Outsource less. Spend far less.

MSMEs are roughly 90% of Egypt's private sector and around 43% of GDP — and most of them overpay for creative and operational work a vetted student can deliver. You set the project rate; we suggest one based on our own benchmarking.

Currently free for both sides during our pilot phase.

Relative cost of the same scope

  • Creative agencyRetainers priced for corporates
  • Freelance platformForeign currency, non-local talent
  • Full-time hireSalary for work that isn't full-time
  • JurniScoped student project, local rate

The app

Live on both stores. Being rebuilt.

The Jurni app is already on the App Store and Google Play. We're actively testing and redesigning it to carry the entire matching flow end to end — so businesses that would never adopt a new tool still find it effortless.

Traction

Proof, not promises.

The hardest part of this market is trust. So we lead with evidence: real clients, real referrals, and a student pool we deliberately keep small until project supply catches up.
